Dancing in the arms of God

Galatians 5 tells us that the flesh wars with the Spirit, but we who are in Christ, are called to be in step with the Spirit, and when we are, we reflect His character, and I think that is like dancing in the arms of God. Being in step requires letting God lead, being neither ahead, nor behind, but with, and trusting Him to orchestrate my life into a beautiful dance, with music and joy, even in the tough times.

Why Dancing in the arms of God?
Galatians 5 tells us that the flesh wars with the Spirit. We are to "walk in the Spirit" and be reflections of the character of God. If we walk in the Spirit, our lives will be full of "love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." Wow!
A very wise man taught me that walking with the Spirit is like dancing in the arms of God.
I don't know how many of you have done ballroom dancing. It is a lot of fun and great exercise. It is customary for the man to lead and the woman to follow, but following does not mean to be behind the beat - you still have to move with the beat, which keeps you on your toes for the most part. It requires a strong lead, which is mostly felt in the arms and upper torso. I have danced with wonderful partners, and some not-so-wonderful partners. Good partners know how to hold you, and the moment to signal his lead so you will not be behind or ahead (which can land you on the floor). When you dance with someone who is not good at leading, it is very easy to try to "help" or "take over". Some days a girl just feels like leading regardless. Not a wise move ladies.
So it is with life. When we let God lead we fall in step with Him. He is a wonderful leader, so why is it so easy to try to lead ourselves sometimes? Well, it's that flesh and Spirit war thing going on. I've tried it both ways, and when I try to take over and lead, I usually end up on the floor looking pretty foolish. But when I submit myself to God (who loves me very much) I may not know the next move till just the exact moment, but I can trust Him to orchestrate my life into a beautiful dance, with music and joy, even in the tough times.
I am still taking "lessons" when it comes to dancing in the arms of God. I still try to "help" sometimes or step on His toes, yet He keeps wooing me back to His loving arms and asks me to trust His lead.
